Target Audience
For my radio jingle and begining of the show i have decided to aim it at a younger audience of students and children at school who are wanting to find out all about new gadgets that are comming out and how they may use them, it could also effect some of the older generation who like to hear about new things or maybe as part of their business they are meant to be researching new products, for this reason i am aiming my jingle at a younger audience with the outlook of having some older listeners.
What i have found out from researching the target audiences of similar media that different radio shows often target different audiences, but overlap with certain sections of the audiences wanting to listen to the opposite one.
Sometimes it is hard for one Dj on a radio show to try and bring together all audiences, because what younger people may want to hear, may be totally different to what an older generation want to hear.
Above is a pie chart showing the results of asking some Friends and Teachers what sort of radio station they would prefer to watch, I decided to seperate this up into a few groups of the 'main' radio shows they may listen to which are Rock(such as Radio1), Currect Affairs (such as BBC Radio 4 or the like.), Dance/Club (which can be found on Radio1 at certain times), Chatshows or Other.
From my research into what my friends would prefer to listen to i have found that it seems to be mainly Rock and then Club/Dance,

Questionaire
For my market research into the target audience I could be targetting i have decided to create a questionaire and ask 30 friends, family and teachers to fill in so that i have a broad range of results from the old and the young into what they like their radio to be like.
1.
1. What sort of radio program do you like to listen to?
Rock Chat Classical Oldies Jazz Other
From the questionaire of 30 people i can see there is a majourity that like radio programs that are to do with Rock music, but there is a large section who like 'other' radio stations that are not on the list.
2.
1. What Gender are you?
Male Female
From question 2 on my questionaire i can see that 57% of the people questioned were female, which is slightly more then male but is not extremely higher, I believe it shows the view of both Genders.
3.
1. What is your age range?
0-10 11-20 21-30 31-40 41-50 51+
From the questionaire i can see that the people who are wanting to give me information about what radio stations they like to listen to (as they did not have to complete the questionaire) was the 11-20 age group, there is also a large 21-30 age group and because of this I believe i should be targetting my radio program mainly towards a 11-30 age group.
4.
1. Do you think there should be news bulletins during the radio program
Yes No Sometimes
From the question on the questionaire I can see out of the people that were surveyed that the large majourity like to hear what the news is with only 20% of the 30 people questioned not wanting to hear the news bulletins, I think this would be a good area to target in my project with the news.
5.
1. Does how popular the radio station and radio show effect if you listen to the program?
Yes No
I can see from the questionaire that how large and popular the radio station and radio program is, does effect if the listener is going to listen, with only 43% of the 30 participants in the questionaire saying it does not effect them.
6.
1. How much time do you spend listening to the radio each week?
0-2 hours, 3-4 hours , 4-6 hours , 8+ hours.
From my questionaire i have found out that most of the people who filled out the questionaire listen to between 3-6 hours of radio a week, 67% of the people who took part, from this i can see that the people who have filled out the questionaire do listen to the radio in their free time, because of this i believe that the results i am getting from the questionaire are very valid.
7.
1. Do you like a radio show that is packed with music or one which has more of the presenters talking and less music?
A lot of music Presenters chatting
From the questionaire i have found out that 57% of the 30 people i surveyed like a radio show with a lot of music, however 43% still like the presenters chatting, with only 30 people being surveyed with the questionaire I don't think this is a big difference when looking on the wider scale because both types of shows have the audience that want to listen to it.
8.
Sales Figures
The sales figures for radio shows mainly come down to the viewing figures that come from the radio show, this means that Radio shows like The Chris Moyles Show on Radio1 and Terry Wogan's on BBC Radio 2 get millions of viewers but do not target all audiences, with every radio show there is a differetn audience base and the BBC targets all of these using many radio Stations from Radio 1 to BBC radio 4 and 1xtra.
At the end of the day, when looking at the sales figures, it will come down to how you target your program at the audience that are going to be listening to it.
After my research i have decided to try and not aim at a very young, or very old age group as I would be shrinking the base of audience that i would be able to get, for this reason i believe i should target an audience that ranges in the mid range around 20-40 so hopefully I will get younger listeners aswell as older.
The brief for our task if to create a audio project that has not got any copy-writed music or media in, because of this I believe it would be hard to create a Rock or Club/Dance music radio show so i have decided to base my project around a radio program that has a news broadcast inside, from my research I have found that there is still an audience who want to have new broadcasts in the radio show.
