Plan The plan i have decided to use for the creation of my radio jingle is to first decide the program i would use, i believe with the programs that i could use the best one for the job would be Garageband on an iMac because it has a good archive of sound and clips that i can add to my ideas of what to do. When thinking of what to do when creating the track is to split it into four sections:
The actual Jingle
The Host of the shows audio clip
The guest of the shows audio clip
The archive clip of the guest
If i have all of these four parts in my radio jingle I believe i will have completed all of the design criteria and it will be an alright finish.
After i have edited all of my jingle I will balance all the levels of the sounds and music ithin the jingle and the begining of the radio with the guest and this will hopefully make it sound like a good and in tune with the mixing.
Target Audience
For my radio jingle and begining of the show i have decided to aim it at a younger audience of students and children at school who are wanting to find out all about new gadgets that are comming out and how they may use them, it could also effect some of the older generation who like to hear about new things or maybe as part of their business they are meant to be researching new products, for this reason i am aiming my jingle at a younger audience with the outlook of having some older listeners.
What i have found out from researching the target audiences of similar media that different radio shows often target different audiences, but overlap with certain sections of the audiences wanting to listen to the opposite one.
Sometimes it is hard for one Dj on a radio show to try and bring together all audiences, because what younger people may want to hear, may be totally different to what an older generation want to hear.
Above is a pie chart showing the results of asking some Friends and Teachers what sort of radio station they would prefer to watch, I decided to seperate this up into a few groups of the 'main' radio shows they may listen to which are Rock(such as Radio1), Currect Affairs (such as BBC Radio 4 or the like.), Dance/Club (which can be found on Radio1 at certain times), Chatshows or Other.
From my research into what my friends would prefer to listen to i have found that it seems to be mainly Rock and then Club/Dance,
Questionaire
For my market research into the target audience I could be targetting i have decided to create a questionaire and ask 30 friends, family and teachers to fill in so that i have a broad range of results from the old and the young into what they like their radio to be like.
1.
1.What sort of radio program do you like to listen to?
RockChatClassicalOldiesJazzOther
From the questionaire of 30 people i can see there is a majourity that like radio programs that are to do with Rock music, but there is a large section who like 'other' radio stations that are not on the list.
From question 2 on my questionaire i can see that 57% of the people questioned were female, which is slightly more then male but is not extremely higher, I believe it shows the view of both Genders.
3.
1.What is your age range?
0-1011-2021-3031-4041-5051+
From the questionaire i can see that the people who are wanting to give me information about what radio stations they like to listen to (as they did not have to complete the questionaire) was the 11-20 age group, there is also a large 21-30 age group and because of this I believe i should be targetting my radio program mainly towards a 11-30 age group.
4.
1.Do you think there should be news bulletins during the radio program
YesNoSometimes
From the question on the questionaire I can see out of the people that were surveyed that the large majourity like to hear what the news is with only 20% of the 30 people questioned not wanting to hear the news bulletins, I think this would be a good area to target in my project with the news.
5.
1.Does how popular the radio station and radio show effect if you listen to the program?
YesNo
I can see from the questionaire that how large and popular the radio station and radio program is, does effect if the listener is going to listen, with only 43% of the 30 participants in the questionaire saying it does not effect them.
6.
1.How much time do you spend listening to the radio each week?
0-2 hours,3-4 hours ,4-6 hours ,8+ hours.
From my questionaire i have found out that most of the people who filled out the questionaire listen to between 3-6 hours of radio a week, 67% of the people who took part, from this i can see that the people who have filled out the questionaire do listen to the radio in their free time, because of this i believe that the results i am getting from the questionaire are very valid.
7.
1.Do you like a radio show that is packed with music or one which has more of the presenters talking and less music?
A lot of musicPresenters chatting
From the questionaire i have found out that 57% of the 30 people i surveyed like a radio show with a lot of music, however 43% still like the presenters chatting, with only 30 people being surveyed with the questionaire I don't think this is a big difference when looking on the wider scale because both types of shows have the audience that want to listen to it.
8.
Sales Figures
The sales figures for radio shows mainly come down to the viewing figures that come from the radio show, this means that Radio shows like The Chris Moyles Show on Radio1 and Terry Wogan's on BBC Radio 2 get millions of viewers but do not target all audiences, with every radio show there is a differetn audience base and the BBC targets all of these using many radio Stations from Radio 1 to BBC radio 4 and 1xtra.
At the end of the day, when looking at the sales figures, it will come down to how you target your program at the audience that are going to be listening to it.
After my research i have decided to try and not aim at a very young, or very old age group as I would be shrinking the base of audience that i would be able to get, for this reason i believe i should target an audience that ranges in the mid range around 20-40 so hopefully I will get younger listeners aswell as older.
The brief for our task if to create a audio project that has not got any copy-writed music or media in, because of this I believe it would be hard to create a Rock or Club/Dance music radio show so i have decided to base my project around a radio program that has a news broadcast inside, from my research I have found that there is still an audience who want to have new broadcasts in the radio show.

Three similar media texts.
The Chris Moyles breakfast show on Radio1.
The chris moyles show, an early morning breakfast show that starts at 06:30 in the morning and runs through till 10 30 is based at all of the listeners who are just waking up and going to work, the show is the prime slot for radio1 and has one of the biggest listener base throughout the bbc radio stations, the jingle to start the show starts without any audio voices but bells tingling and wind based instruments playing, this very quickly erupts into a more rock tune with drums which makes you feel like getting up and like you want to listen to the show, not long after this audio comes into it with a catchy tune singing about how it is cold outsdie the bedroom, the streets are dark and bare and that you should stay inside your bed, this tune carries on and gets you in the mood for listening to the show or getting out of bed, part of the audio says ' Chris is here and so's his team, and aleds tagged along' which is there to let the audience know that it is Chris moyles who is about to have a show on the radio and is introducing it, at the end of the jingle it ends and then a backing beat of the drums and some instruments from the jingle carry on whilst Chris starts talking about the show and what may be in it.
Tim Westwood's 'In new music we trust' show.
Tim Westwood hosts a show called 'in new music we trust' which is on between 21:00 and 22:00 on a tuesday night, it is an 'alternative' program where Tim Westwood talks and plays fresh RnB and Hip-Hop and dancehall tracks, as like every radio program the show starts with a 'Jingle' they have created to let the audience know of what the show is about and what they may hear and find out during the show, unlike other jingles this jingle gets right in there with many voices saying differnet things such as 'Check out in new music we trust', it goes on to say that it is on tuesdays at 9pm which is letting the audience know when the show is, after this it goes on to say that it is with Tim Westwood and 'Go on Tim Westwood' which is introducing the Dj that is heading the show, after a few radio effects like crackling, Tim Westwood introduces the show over the begining of a track where he lets everyone know about how his featured guest is 50 cent and what a few of the things he is going to be playing in the show.
Annie Mac's Mash up
Annie Mac hosts a radio show between 7 and 11 on a friday evening which is primetime listening for anyone who is leaving a late days work and going home ready for the weekend to start, this will mean that there will be a large audience base, the begining of her show starts with her Jingle which is a fast moving intense introduction to the listener of what may be in the show and what the show is about, a mix of many tracks and vocals mixed together to create a great start to the show with it saying 'Its friday night' by many people, which gets the listener into the mood that its now the weekend and you can let loose a bit, which is summed up in the blurb of the show being 'a post-pub , pre-club show. Right after the mix of the jingle it goes into a fast moving track which is interupted half way through when the vocals stop with Annie Mac introducing her show and thanking the previous DJ, she explains that there is going to be fast moving enjoyable music. The Audience that Annie Mac will be targetting would be a younger audience which could range up to the mid 40's, i believe this is the audience that is being targetted by Annie Mac with her fast moving up-beat show that has a broad range of music styles, from Hardcore to Punk and rock but mainly delving into the Club music scene because of how the show is situated right before the weekend and before the listeners will be going out to the clubs, this means that they will be wanting to get into the mood and ready for clubbing, which is a good pull into listening to the music for the style that is being broadcast. What is different between Annie Mac's evening show and others is there are very few news slots compared to many other shows that are around.
Terry Wogans 'Wake up to Wogan' morning show.
Terry Wogans morning show is a weekday show from 7 30am till 9 30 am and has the biggest audience base out of the shows on the BBC radio stations,
Terrys show is linked into from an older song by Queen, when this ends it cuts into the news and weather before the show and has an indepth report of the news and then weather, once this has finished it goes to Wogan speaking and makes a joke making his co-presenters laugh, in the background a old pirate shanty starts which then quickly cuts into a song were terry talks in the background untill the vocals start, at the end of the song he introduces the show how he is 'rising above it' and goes into a chat about what he got up to the night before, and then about the weather in Scotland, after this it goes into a song by Stevie wonder. At the end of the start to the show he goes into talking about the television program 'The great british menu' and the food that was on the show.
The audience that Terry wogan has is an older age range (although he does get some younger people), the shows that are on BBC Radio 2 often have an older age range of viewers compared to radio 1 due to the newer 'hip' music being played on Radio 1 compared to Radio 2 that often play some older music mixed in with new, as can be shown by the start of Terry Wogans show were he is playing music by Queen, Stevie wonder, although right at the end of the begining i have listened to he plays a new track from Girls aloud which shows that he plays differnent Era's of the music. I believe from listening to some of Terry Wogans show that his audience is often older because of what he talks about compared to such DJ's as Chris Moyles on radio 1, he talks about the current affairs much more compared to Chris Moyles who is mainly about Celebrities and gossip.
BBC Radio 4's 'Any Questions'
I have decided to look into the 'Any Questions' program on Radio 4 which is a topical discussion in which a panel of personalities from the worlds of politics, media and elsewhere are posed questions by the audience, the show starts with an advert for children finding their half siblings for a show on Radio 4 later in the week, it then cuts to a radio 4 broadcaster introducing 'Any questions', The presenter of this weeks 'Any Questions', Jonathon Dimblebywelcomes his audience and introduces the show, he explains from where it is coming and a bit about the town of Cookham in Berkshire, after this he introduces the rest of the members of the panel who are going to be answering the questions and explaining what they have done in the past and what they are doing now, after the fourth member of the panel is introduced the audience clap which shows there is a live audience, the program carries on with one of the panel explaining a situation in the world right now about politics, to which some of the rest of the panel members comment(with a few laughs from the audience).
From listening to the first section of the 'Any Questions' program I can see it is aimed at an older audience and there is no music throughout, it is aimed at an older generation who are interested in the politics in the country, because of this the audience will be much smaller then a program such as Terry Wogans Wake up show or the Chris Moyles Show on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2, because the BBC (British Broadcasting Corp.) trys to target all audiences there is a show like 'Any Questions' on BBC Radio 4.
Local Radio Station - BBC Radio Jersey
I listened to the beginning of a Monday morning BBC Radio jersey program with a female presenter/host,I realized it is much like how i plan to base my radio program, the host comes in and introduces the show for about 30-40 seconds talking about what is in the show and talks about what is coming up in the show, this is good so that the audience has a feeling of what is coming up in the show, after the presenter has introduced what is happening it goes forwards into the news and sport, lovally and around the world, this is good for informing the viewer, the news and sport ends and the show continues into a chat.
