· Hundreds feared Drowned off Libya coast

· Two boats carrying more than 500 migrants have capsized off the coast of Libya, 200 of the migrants are feared dead although a rescue effort is ongoing.
· Armed tribesman have abducted a couple, believed to be Dutch, in the Yemeni capital and are believed to have been taken into the mountains 70km from the capital.
And Locally
· More than 900 cases of domestic violence were reported to the police last year, with over 300 victims being classed as ‘high risk’, it has been revealed from police file, these official police figures show a 17 per cent rise in domestic attacks since 2007
· States Members got a stern lesson in manners this morning after Health Minister Jim Perchard used offensive language towards Senator Stuart Syvret during States question time and had to issue an apology.
· Earlier this month vandals struck at the Elizabeth Marina, damaging 54 boats and causing over 50,000 in damages, in results of this, JERSEY Harbours is spearheading a new action group designed to improve port security and tackle problems caused by the behaviour of teenagers, recently Security has been stepped up every weekend in the port by a private security firm.

· Pensioners are facing a grim summer struggling to pay bills and unable to go on holiday because they cannot get travel insurance. Age Concern has warned that hundreds of elderly Islanders are having difficulty paying bills because plummeting interest rates have slashed their income, Chairman Daphne Minihane says that pensioners who rely on interest on their life savings are in financial turmoil following a dramatic drop in returns on almost all bank accounts.
· A YOUTH choir from the Island has struck gold in Prague while taking part in one of Europe’s major international competitions for young ensembles. The Musical Originals Singers, trained and conducted by Imogen Nicholls, won the Children’s Choir Class – beating the favourites from Russia – and also received one of only four gold awards to be given in the competition.
